The Clinic was started in 1968 as a Mobile point. In 1980, the building of Ophansi clinic started due to the high number of patients that were accessing the mobile point. In 1982 the clinic was finished and started to function. In 2008, the clinic was reassessed as the structure was old with cracks, through the assistance from Africa Foundation major renovations was done to accommodate the community of KwaJobe.
This Clinic serves the community of kwaJobe Area (Ward 20, Ward 3 and Ward 4 of Jozini Local Municipality). Without this clinic these people would have to travel 27 kms to access the clinic at Mqobokazi in Big 5 and Gedleza in Ward 5 under Jozini Local Municipality. It is difficult to walk this distance so the community members would be reliant on using private transport costing approximately R30 for single trip to reach the other clinics. There is also a river to cross, which makes it unsafe for community members to walk there especially from ward 4 and Ward 3 (Mangwenya area and eNhlangano Area). Africa Foundation started working with this clinic on 2008, where the clinic was reassessed as the structure was old with cracks and major renovation was done and one dressing room, public toilets and waste storage was added of which is still unable to accommodate the community of kwaJobe.
