Africa Foundation and &Beyond have a a long standing partnership with the KwaMakhasa community, having supported sustainable community development and great conservation efforts since 1992. Sikhulanabo creche also has a rich history dating back to the 1990’s when i was established by a group of women who used the site for sewing group meeting. Today , it aspires to provide quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs. However, despite being registered with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and operating as a non-profit organization, the creche faces challenges due to its infrastructure limitations. These limitations prevent them from meeting the standards required to qualify for government subsidies, which would provide much-needed financial resources. This lack of resources creates a ripple effect of challenges, impacting both the families who rely on the creche and the staff who dedicate their time to caring for the children.
Realizing the severity of this issue, Sikhulanabo Creche has approached Africa Foundation and is seeking support to address their infrastructure limitations .
The KwaMakhasa community is part of the Big 5 Hlabisa Municipality and is situated along the coast bordering scenic locations such as the Drakensburg , iSimangaliso world Heritage site as well as multiple game reserves in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The community is badly resourced and faces socio-economic struggles everyday such as limit drinking water. Since the partnership of Africa Foundation and &Beyond they have supported the KwaMakhasa community with sustainable development efforts. Through the establishment of Sikhulanabo Creche , they have been dedicated to the development of children and striving to create a positive space for the children to learn and grow in.
