Saparingo Primary School was established in 2005 when the community came together to construct the first classroom. There are currently 290 pupils, 12 Teachers and 4 subordinate staff. Kimintent Community Forest Conservation Trust would like to set up a tree nursery at the school, with the aim of increasing the number of seedlings that will be available to the major project of restoring Nyekweri Forest. The school’s proximity to Nyekweri Forest and the fertile soil makes is a feasible site. The nursery will be managed by the Community & Conservation Rangers with extra help from students and teachers. The Community & Conservation Rangers will oversee planting out the seedlings propagated at the Saparingo school across areas of the Forest that have been cleared for charcoal production, with the intention of planting out over 20 000 seedlings per annum. The nursery will be used as a learning center for pupils, helping deliver environmental education lessons, emphasizing the biodiversity and conservation importance of Nyekweri Forest and the extended Masai Mara conservation area.
