Katekani Daycare was established in 2019 by community members, children in the community where not attending daycare because the nearest day care was too far for then to walk. The daycare was started in a double garage, which they are still using as their classroom. The daycare currently has an enrolment of 35 children aged between 6 month to 4 years old. There are 5 members of staff responsible for the children (3 members are responsible for teaching the children, 1 who is tasked with cleaning up and the other responsible for cooking). There is one building with 1 room that is used as the teacher’s office and administration office and a double garage that is used as a classroom. There is two pit toilets, one for staff and the other used by the children. There is no kitchen, meals are prepared outside, which is often a problem when it is raining. The infrastructure at the daycare does not meet the requirements of The Department of Social Development.
