The Emurutoto Health Centre was established by Africa Foundation in 2018 to service the communities of Emurutoto, Saparingo, Iltolish, Kimitent and Oilorien. Only 4 staff houses were built with the establishment of the health centre, there is now a shortage of accommodation and the additional staff members are dotted around the community in temporary residence – one at the local church, one at the primary school and others in community members houses, all as temporary solutions. Africa Foundation wishes to ensure that the staff at Emurutoto Health Centre are provided with suitable living conditions to continue to serve these communities. This will include fencing to provide safety and security for both staff and patients, and keep the wildlife out of the property.
The additional needs include electrical installation because the health centre currently lacks access to electricity and therefore cannot run some of the laboratory machinery and other machines such as the water plant which is already in place. Currently there is only a cramped maternity room, and there is an urgent need to establish a dedicated maternity ward, to support mothers during the final weeks of their pregnancy and for the recovery period post-birth.
