Africa Foundation have been working with the community of Gottenburg since 2017. The community has great sense of unity and strong leadership structures, the crime rate in the community is very low. Gottenburg community prioritizes education, their schools are ranked among the best in the region. There are 2 schools in Gottenburg, Manyeleti Primary School and Dayimani High School. There is hardly any employment opportunities in the community, as a result most men of working age migrate to other cities in search for jobs, many households are led by the women and the elderly who are the most vulnerable members of society.

The Dayimani High School is the only secondary school in Gottenburg, it was established in 1989. Children from Gotternburg used to walk far to and from school before the school was built. The school is managed and run by a team of 29 staff members consisting of 21educators, an administration assistant, 3 general workers, 3 food handlers and a gardener. The school offers class from grade 8 to grade 12, there are 465 learners currently enrolled, 82 grade 8, 94 grade 9, 110 grade 10, 99 grade 11 and 80 grade 12 pupils.
The infrastructure at Dayamani High School consists of 10 classrooms (2 of which are mobile classrooms), 3 blocks of ablution toilets with 4 cubicle per block (2 blocks for girls and 1 block for boys), a kitchen and a poorly built administration office. Despite having inadequate resources, the school performed above 90% Matric pass rates for the past 5 years, achieving100% pass rates in the years 2014, 2015 and 2017. They are currently rank 5th best Matric pass rate in the province.
