Established in 2007, Chaenda Secondary School provides Grade 8 – 12 level education and lies between the two communities of Endashang’wet and Changarawe. While it can in theory serve both communities, the school is not close to any of its five feeder primary schools, and very few of the learners live close to the school. When Africa Foundation first partnered with the school in 2014, it had a total of 9 classrooms and admin block, all built by the community. The community have been focusing their support on constructing science laboratories at the school. As of 2012, it became mandatory in Tanzania for all secondary schools to have purpose-built laboratories in order to effectively deliver the science syllabus. Funds were raised through the community and in 2014 and some construction on this project began. However to this day, the community have not had capacity to complete the classrooms or purchase equipment for the science syllabus. Having met the immediate need of ablutions, Africa Foundation would now like to support the school in the completion and equipping of three science laboratories.
